We all have them. Our soul songs! The one’s that make us have all the feels.
Oftentimes when I’m going through a new phase in life I find myself seeking a song to get me through. Something that feels right to my story. I use music to encourage me, excite me, inspire me to be better, and to soothe when I’m hurting. And it never fails to work. So I thought for fun… I’d give you a little trip into my 5 favorite songs. They make my life!
Let’s start with back in the day and move forward:
DC Talk “Luv Is A Verb”
I had a cassette tape that had to have been played about a million times in my sunflower covered teenage bedroom. If I had to do anything with energy… it was all about DC Talk. Also, didn’t everyone learn how to be a lady from this album!
Ben Folds “The Luckiest”
This is the song my dear sweet husband says he would sing to me if he could sing. We’ve been together since I was 16 and his love is so much a part of who I am today. This song makes me remember and feel so honored that he feels lucky to be with me.
The Music Man “Til There Was You”
Then I had a baby. I never knew what love really meant until I held him in my arms. I would rock him to sleep every night singing this to him and I hope to one day dance to this song at his wedding.
Queen “Fat Bottom Girls”
Then I had a personal awakening. Began to love myself and this is the song that came out of that.
Judy Garland: I Don’t Care
So here’s where I am today! Past the self awakening to the love me or hate me stage! So I listen to this and smile! And feel great!
Of course there are other songs that hold a dear place in my heart! But for right now… these songs make my life!
